Honeycomb is actively involved in various outreach programs. We are serious about spreading the wonders of Montessori to those less fortunate than ourselves and we also believe that it is very important for our pupils to be aware of the realities of the world around them.
We raise money for outreach from fundraisers such as the Quiz Night, Raffles and Zip Zap Circus events etc. 10% of each fundraiser goes to the Outreach budget.
We like to spread our Outreach work as widely as possible. Our more recent projects we are supporting our Home From Home and ROPKA.
Home from Home was started by Jane Payne and Pippa Shaper in 2005. It is formally recognised by the Western Cape Department of Social Development as a registered Cluster Foster Care Scheme. They provide supported and supervised community-based foster care for over 200 orphaned, abused, neglected and vulnerable children. They believe that living in a small family unit (no more than 6 children) with a dedicated foster mother or parents is the next best place for children who cannot be cared for by their own biological families. At Honeycomb we support them by collecting various items they need such as toys, clothes and food.
In 2011 ROKPA started a relationship with Mowbray Maternity Hospital to provide social relief to vulnerable mothers. At Honeycomb we collect goods such as soap and maternity pads for the mothers; and clothing, nappies
and blankets for the babies to help ROKPA volunteers make up "stork bundles".
We always welcome donations of clothing, educational games, books and toys. If you have anything you want to get rid of that could be useful to others, please let us know and we will find them a worthy home.
We have two bursary children at Honeycomb each year. If you are interested in a bursary please contact email@example.com
